Blue Mountain Rider Rating Scale Level 1: You have little experience riding a bike. You are comfortable riding on paved surfaces, but once you wander onto dirt or gravel you hesitate and feel uncomfortable. You have never ridden single track trails.
Level 2: You have experience riding a bike off-road (dirt/gravel path) and some experience riding single track. You are comfortable on double track (rail trails) trails with moderate climbs and descents, and are able to ride single track. This will be your first time riding a downhill bike.
Level 3: You have several years of experience riding cross-country, or motocross and are familiar with downhill mountain biking. You are comfortable on double track and single track trails with moderate climbs and descents, but steep descents make you uncomfortable.
Level 4: You are a downhill or freeride mountain biker. You are comfortable on double and single track trails with moderate to steep descents, but you are uncomfortable riding narrow man-made features.
Level 5: You are a downhill or freeride mountain biker. You are comfortable on double and single track trails with steep descents and riding narrow man-made features.

Riders must provide bike and safety equipment. Riders 17 and under are required to wear a full face helmet and full armour protection (arms, legs, chest and back protection)

Tuesday Night Cross-Country Series
Tuesday nights between July 5 - August 30
The XC Series at Blue is Collingwood’s all-ages cross-country mountain bike race series. Every Tuesday night for 9 consecutive weeks from July 5 to August 30, riders of all ages are invited to race in this fun, grassroots series. New for 2011 is the XC Kids Track where kids 9 & under can learn the basic skills of Mountain bike racing under the supervision of the Blue Mountain Bike Pros. A team challenge has also been added to the mix, inviting local shops teams, friends and families to race in a collective effort for the team title.

East Coast Open
August 12 - 14
Blue Mountain Resorts in partnership with Sirbikealot Racing, is excited to welcome the return of the East Coast Open Mountain Bike Race and Expo. New to the event this year is the addition of two new race disciplines; Cross Country and Dual Slalom. With the collaboration of the Downhill and Cross Country races the event organizers expect more than 600 participants to attend, making it one of the largest mountain bike events in Eastern Canada.
This event caters to elite racers from all over the world hoping to claim the East Coast Open title and Eastern Canada’s largest race prize purse; more than $10,000 in cash and prizing. The East Coast Open Expo will showcase the brand new 2011 line up of mountain bike products from the top vendors in the industry. In addition to the Pro-Elite category, the East Cost Open will also include Amateur and Junior categories to encourage local participation and to provide something for every level of racer.
